I
specialize in remodeling with an emphasis on interior and exterior
finish carpentry. This includes window replacement, kitchen and bath
renovations, closet packages, tongue and groove ceilings, minor framing
and siding, minor fencing and fence repairs as well as complete deck
and rail packages.
I began in construction in the late 1990's after moving back to Bend
from the Portland area. Working for a finish carpenter until 2004, I
learned all that I could about residential construction. Paying special
attention to which sub contractors did the best work in a timely
fashion. I also spent time back in Portland doing finish carpentry and
decks for one of my best friends and "building guru", Todd Good.
Todd is a builder of custom homes in the 500 to 700k range.
He
and I trade helping each other when we need and can.
Decks
and Rails
General
Contractor/Builder Todd Good
and I have been constructing and
remodeling decks in Portland and Bend for years. We work with
homeowners to design outdoor recreational spaces which accommodate all
the typical needs (hot tubs, grills, patio furniture, and landscaping
constraints), as well as desires (shapes, levels, materials, rail
styles, even taking into account sun and shade angles). Planter boxes
and benches can also be added to spruce up any deck. We can remodel
existing
decks which may be rotting, may have structural issues, or
may need complete removal.
Structure is the key. Many deck builders cut corners to save money.
Using as few and as small pier pads as possible. Many of the decks
which I have removed have joists laid out on 24" centers. This leads to
a "spongy" deck and a shorter life span. We use all "corrosive
resistant" hangers and fasteners and joists
are laid out on 16"
centers. All ledger boards are lag bolted to "structural
members" of the house. In all sloped grade or heavy moisture
applications we use 18" diameter round pier pads. The larger the foot
print, the larger the foot! We can build any rail design imaginable.
Several different designs are
viewable here,
and all rails will meet
code.
There are several different materials available for the decking.
Traditional decks are cedar. These decks require treatment
every two years or so depending on exposure. This service can
be provided upon request. Next there are composite products. These
products are a combination of recycled plastics, wood fibers, and glue.
No treatment required. Trex and Timber Tech are two of the most common
brands and both have a variety of textures and colors. I'm a big fan
of
composite decks. The lack of maintenance as well as a lack of
slivers is very attractive to me. There are also "Dry Deck" systems
available to keep patios below decks, dry!
Cover your
decks, patios, and entries
Patio
covers, Awnings, Pergola's, Trellis', and Foyers
are all
functionally satisfying way's of enhancing a deck, paver patio, or
entrance. We can design almost anything you can think up.
Click the pic to view several we have built. We can add lots of
different features to increase functionality and style...skylights,
recessed can lighting, heaters, cedar shingled gable ends, and speakers
to name a few. Fully enclosing an entry turning it into an "air lock"
foyer, or build a covered, open front entry way. We will help you
design your foyer to enhance curb appeal as well as energy
conservation.
